Scogliera Viva Caorle: Art Sculpting the Sea

There is a place in Caorle where the boundary between sea and land is marked by art. The promenade that runs alongside the church of the Madonna dell’Angelo is not just a simple pier, but a unique open-air gallery: ScoglieraViva.

Every two years, sculptors from all over the world gather here to bring Euganean trachyte blocks to life. In 2026, the symposium returns to enchant citizens and travelers with new works sculpted live, transforming stone into emotion.

What is ScoglieraViva?

Born in 1992 from an idea by sculptor Sergio Longo, this international outdoor sculpture exhibition has transformed the breakwater barrier into a permanent artistic path. Walking along this cliff means “reading” stories of the sea, faces, and abstract shapes that change appearance depending on the light and the waves.

The 2026 Symposium: watching art being born

During the symposium days (traditionally held in June), the promenade transforms into a real workshop. It is a rare opportunity: you can observe the artists at work, hear the rhythmic sound of the chisels, and see figures slowly emerge from the raw stone.

A friend’s tip: The best time to visit during the working days is late afternoon. The artists are often happy to chat about the meaning of their work, and the warmth of the stone blends perfectly with the sea breeze that cools the air at sunset.

Three unmissable stops along the rocks.

The Madonna dell’Angelo: This is the natural starting point. The church, situated right on the seashore, provides a sacred setting that kickstarts the journey and makes everything even more atmospheric.
The historical works: Look among the rocks for the sculptures from the early editions. Those smoothed by salt and time possess an ancestral charm, almost as if they had always belonged to the sea.
The panoramic viewpoint: Halfway through the walk, stop and look out to sea. This is where man’s art and the infinity of the sea merge most beautifully.
